T&T’s ace international sprinter Jereem Richards won the men’s 200 metres title at the USATF Bermuda Grand Prix in Devonishire, Bermuda on Sunday.
Richards of local club Abilene Wildcats finished strongly to past American Mathew Boling just before the finish line to win in 20.39 seconds. The winning time was wind-aided with a strong tailwind of 4.9m/s. Boling was 0.03 seconds behind in 20.42 with Nigeria’s Udori Onwuzuruke taking the bronze medal in 20.61.
Richards’ time was slower than his season-opening clocking of 20.35 in finishing fourth at the Tom Jones Invitational in Florida, USA on April 13.
The 2018/2022 Commonwealth Games men’s 200m winner set a new personal best in the 100m clocking 10.19 in the Pure Athletics Spring Invitational in Florida on April 20.
Asa Guevera was fifth in the men’s 400m in 47.50. Grenada’s former Olympic and World Champion Kirani James won in 46.00 ahead of Bahamian Alonzo Russell (47.05) and Demish Gaye of Jamaica (47.15). Elijah Goodwin of the USA ended in fourth (47.38). The Abilene Wildcats sprinter was short of his season-opening time of 47.37 set in finishing 26th at the Tom Jones Invitational.
Reigning World 100 and 200, and 4x100 metres relay champion Noah Lyles of the USA captured the men’s 100 metres run in 9.96 seconds (wind:3.0 m/s) while compatriot Tamari Davis retained the women’s equidistant 11.04 seconds (wind:2.3m/s).
Jamaicans Stacey-Ann Williams (51.71) and Shiann Salmon (56.59) won the women’s 400m and 400m hurdles respectively.
Another Jamaican, World Junior triple jump record holder Jaydon Hibbert, landed the men’s triple. jump top spot with 17.33 (wind:4.3m/s).
Richards and Guevera will head to Nassau, Bahamas to represent T&T at World Relays from May 4-5.
