HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT)- Reports show that enrollment in Illinois Public Schools continues to drop.

The statewide public school head count is down by nearly 10,000 students from last year according to newly released figures form the Illinois State Board of Education. The Daily Herald also reports that suburban school districts in five counties lost more than 1700 students this year.

District officials attribute the drops in enrollment to falling birthrates and large empty-nester populations. Statewide enrollments have been declining for the past decade.
